So, you've got a shiny new DVR from Dish Network and you have no idea how to set your favorite programs to record? No problem! This article will show you one of the ways you can easily record and play back any show you want using your Dish Network DVR!
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
Dish Network DVR (Properly connected to your Television)
Television
Dish Network remote control
Step 1
There are a number of ways to record a TV show or moving using the Dish Network DVR. One of the most intuitive ways to record a program is to use the guide to select the desired program and press select. This brings up the "Create Timer" screen which allows you to customize how you want to record your show!
Step 2
Directional and Select buttons on remote control
On the "Create Timer" screen you will have two main options: "Type" and "Frequency". The "Type" refers to how you want the DVR to handle the scheduled event. For the purposes of this article, we will leave it to the
default of "DVR".
Under "Frequency" we are given more options:
- All Episodes
- New Episodes
- Once
- Weekly
- Daily
- Mon-Fri
Depending on how often you want to record you may want to request that the DVR record only new episodes, but if the desired show is anolder series or a movie you might want to select All Episodes to ensure that your DVR catches them all. Other frequency options allow you to set the DVR to record the same program only once, only one time per week or only Monday thru Friday.
Step 3
Once you have set your options, select "Done" on the screen. After your selected items have recorded, you certainly need to be able to watch them! You can retrieve your recorded programs by selecting the DVR button on the Dish Network remote. Depending on the model of your DVR receiver, you may need to also select "My Recordings" from the on-screen menu.
On the listing of your recorded programs, select the program you would like to watch using the directional buttons on the remote control and pressing select. Once you have selected the program, the screen will display a brief description of the episode or movie. Using the remote control select "Play" from the on-screen menu. Now you can watch your favorite TV Show whenever you like!
Tips & Warnings
You can skip forward and back using the "Skip Forward" and "Skip Back" buttons on the remote control.
The "Skip Forward" goes ahead approximately 30 seconds per press, while the "Skip Back" goes back only about 10 seconds per press.
You can pause, rewind or fast forward using the appropriate buttons on the remote control.
If you want to stop watching the recording, just hit "View Live TV" to go back to the channel you were watching in live mode!
The Dish DVR digital video recording device allows you to record programming from your Dish Network satellite dish. You can record individual programs, skip commercials, record an entire season of your favorite show and set a recording from the Internet.

Record a television show, movie, sporting event or program. Use the channel guide to locate the program you want to record and press the "Record" button on the remote control.
Set a recurring recording. Click on the show name in your channel guide and press the select button. Press "DVR" and select one of the options: record new episodes or record all episodes (including reruns).
Search for programs to record. If you don't know when a show is going to air, you can use the built-in search function to locate the program for you. Select "Program Search" from the Program Guide screen to search for the show you want to record.
Use Remote Access to manage your DVR when you are away from home. If you've left the house and forgotten to record your favorite show, or if you want to log in and delete recordings to make room for more, you can access your DVR from any Internet-enabled computer or iPhone. Visit the Remote Access homepage to log into your Dish DVR. This service requires a VIP series DVR connected to a broadband Internet connection.
Watch a recorded program on your DVR. Use the "DVR" button on your remote control to open your DVR library. Select the show you want to watch and press "Play." To skip through commercials, use the "Skip Forward" button.
Pause live TV. If you're watching a show and need to take a call or leave the room, press "Pause" on the remote control to freeze the program until you return. Press "Play" to resume watching where you left off.
The remote that controls your Dish Network Satellite receiver has a signal address that matches your receiver. However, sometimes a neighbor has the same signal address, which can lead to the remotes controlling another nearby receiver. Also, in some cases the remote and receiver may have different signal addresses that prevent the devices from communicating.
Changing the remote address will reduce the chance of interference from another remote and ensure it matches the receiver address.
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
Satellite Receiver
Satellite Remote.
Step 1
Press the "System Info" button on the front of the receiver. Write the remote address that you see on the on-screen menu down for later reference. Leave this menu on screen while setting the remote address.
Step 2
Locate the "SAT" mode button on the remote. Press and hold down the button until the remote's button backlights turn on. Release the button and enter any number between 1 and 16 on the remote, except the number that appears in the Remote Address line on screen.
Step 3
Press the pound (#) button on the remote. A valid address is confirmed by the SAT button backlight flashing three times. If it does not flash three times, re-enter another number from 1 to 16. Once you get the confirmation, write down the new remote control address.
Step 4
Press the "Record" button on the remote. Look at the on-screen menu and verify that the Remote Address is the same address number that you just entered into the remote. This is important because if the number entered into the remote does not match the on-screen number, the remote will not control the receiver. If this happens, go back and repeat Step 2 and Step 3.
Step 5
Press "Select" on the remote control to exit the System Information screen and complete the change.
Tips & Warnings
You can determine the current remote address without the on-screen menu by holding down the SAT button until the backlights turn on. When the lights turn on, release the button and press the pound (#) button twice. The SAT button will flash the same number of times as the number programmed as the remote address.
Programming a Dish Network remote takes about 10 minutes if you are programming it for a receiver, TV, VCR or DVD. The remote can be set up to control all of these electronics so you only need one remote for everything. To program the remote, you will need the user manual for the codes or if your make and model is not listed, you will have to find the source code manually. The programming is relatively easy.
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
User manual
Dish remote control
Step 1
Select the TV button on the remote. If you have switched to TV mode, the light will flash. Turn on the TV you wish to program into the remote.
Step 2
Look in the user manual for the section for "Manufacturer codes for programming the remote." There may be more than one code to try for programming.
Step 3
Press the address button on the remote and use the keypad on the remote to enter the code. If the code is correct, the mode button will flash three times. If the code is correct, you should be able to press the power button and turn off the TV. If the code is wrong, enter the next code. Repeat until you find the correct code.
Step 4
No codes match your device. Press the mode button for TV. Then press the address button until the light starts flashing slowly. Then press the power button and the light will stop flashing.
Step 5
Use the up and down buttons to search for the correct code. When the remote finds that correct code, the TV will turn off. Press the address button to store the code. If this is a valid code, the light will flash three times.
Step 6
Program the other devices into the remote by following steps 2 through 5 using the device button on the remote. The "Aux" button will require a 0 in front of the code for a TV and a 1 for a VCR and the code. The regular TV and VCR buttons do not require those numbers.
Tips & Warnings
Once you press the address button, do not press it again until you are finished or it cancels out the operation.
Write down the codes that display for future reference
